Intermatica is pleased to announce Yahsat - Al Yah Satellite Communications Company is acquiring a majority stake in Thuraya Telecommunications Company.
The news, greeted with enthusiasm by both parties, has officially been released last night.
Yahsat is a satellite operator specialised in broadband connectivity based on VSAT technology, mainly addressing Government and TV boroadcasting.
Thuraya is an operator leader in mobile satellite services looking at all the markets, government and corporate as well as consumer.
Services are provided by both the operators in territories including Europe, Asia and Africa; the coverage area of Thuraya network spreads to Far East and Oceania, this leading to new commercial opportunities for Yahsat.
The overlapping of some areas, where the two operators have developed a deep know-how, as well as the complementary nature of the products and services are the launch pad for this new entity.
A scenario changed in one night: the satellite communication industry has always been an oligopoly maintaining the balance in the definition of self-assigned industries and services.
Today the combination of two such relevant players modifies developments and capacities of the whole sector.
